Lieutenant Governor Community Spirit Award Celebration

Despite unforeseen delays and an impending hurricane, the crowds gathered for a quintessential “Petite” celebration where folks of all ages enjoyed music, home baked treats and heart-felt testaments of community love at the Petite Rivière Elementary School. On Friday September 6th the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia presented the communities served by Petite Rivière Elementary School with the Community Spirit Award. This award celebrates the power and diversity of vibrant communities across Nova Scotia who promote citizen engagement, civic pride and a positive outlook on the future. The award itself was specially created by Nova Scotia Crystal and perfectly captured the spirit of resilience and beauty found across our communities with an osprey emerging from the flames.

The Greater Petite Area Community Association submitted an application for this recognition on behalf of the eleven communities in the Petite School catchment with support from the Broad Cove Community Association, the Petite Rivière Community Park Association, the Lahave & Area Refugee Support Committee and the Petite Rivière Elementary School & School Advisory Council.

The evening would not have been possible without the efforts of many including donations of home-baked treats, flowers, decor, time and services from so many generous and talented individuals and businesses across our communities. As well, a big thanks to the planning committee who worked throughout the summer months to create such a warm and welcoming gala and of course the efforts of the five partners and careful editors who created the successful submission.

Please enjoy the amazing photos of Gillian Crouse from the evening. A huge thank you to Gillian who donated her time and talents to capture the warmth and emotion of the evening. Here is a small selection but please do check them all out at this link (they are all amazing!).
